Hi,
Our superintendant has been making the rounds of school and parent groups with a message warning about a 'possible' reduction in revenue. We're a basic aid district so we are free of a lot of the money woes most school districts are experiencing now. I have two thoughts for saving money. One, I would take Stephen Krashan's idea of no CAHSEE testing a bit further and have a moratorium on all state testing. I'm sure teachers would be able to assess students within their curriculum. The other thought is to have a moratorium on new textbook adoptions. Our English department had a new adoption three years ago and now they are up for another. I don't know the legality of that. Does anyone know how much money the state doles out in textbook money each year to districts? Do districts have any choice about partaking in new textbook adoptions? As far as testing, that is probably NCLB related and there is no choice about it. You are the most knowledgeable group I know. What is happening in your districts to save money that doesn't involve lay-offs? Thanks.
