Marilyn,
Good thought. Many people assume that everyone (or most everyone) has Internet access and books. School and public librarians are especially aware of access issues. It is an excellent idea for librarians to speak out on the issues and point out how libraries (and librarians) are solutions.
Lots of issues with library solutions. Here is a starter set:
1- no home Internet access? Want to contact the President, Governor, or your Representatives? Your library has Internet workstations and probably wireless access too.
2- Money's tight? No or few books at home? You recycle and want to do more for the planet? Your library has books for every age and interest. Borrow, browse, or read at your library.
3- Worried about cybersafety? Teacher Librarians provide the cybersafety instruction mandated in AB 307.
Plug the message suggested by CSLA for Day in the District: "Take a stand for equal access to instruction, resources, and opportunity to achieve for all California students. Our students are competing with students in other states and countries that benefit from strong school library programs." Keep California libraries strong.
Best wishes.

Contact the President's team
Hello everyone,
I really get discouraged whenever I hear the President or a member of his team encourage people to contact them or get more information on their numerous Web sites. A great idea. But there are many --lots of people I know who have no Internet access at home.
I would like to recommend that as many school and public librarians as possible contact the President/his teams on one or more of their official Web sites — ask them to remind citizens that they can access President Obama's team by using the free online resources available at their schools and public libraries.
thanks for thinking about this problem.
