It is a health hazard though and needs to be in a non-carpeted area so
that any blood spills can be cleaned up properly. There are guidelines
that have to be followed that are more difficult in carpeted areas.
Blood could get into the books and on the tables and transfer blood born
pathogens through the contact surfaces. That is definitely a health
hazard. The gym or cafeteria, where there are easily cleaned surfaces
and less chance of contagion, are much more appropriate. It may not be
in the ed code, but it could be a health code violation. Maybe she
could check with OSHA.

Subject: [CALIBK12] Holding a blood drive in the library
My friend works in the high school library. For the last several years
the ASB has held their blood drives in the library. It makes her so
ill, she has to take to day off. Food and drink, coolers with blood,
sometimes stains on the carpet and the smell, and the fact that students
cannot use the library that day.
She is wondering if you can help her with logical arguments to have it
held in the gym or MPR. She says that she can't find any Health Code to
prevent the blood drive in the library.
Can you help her?
