I could not get on either site, so called everyone on the list.  Jackie
Spier's # is incorrect.  It's 650-342-0300.  Barbara Lee's office said
congressional courtesy dictated our only calling our own reps.  I told
her that the other 8 that I called did not say that.

Hello everyone,

DO THIS NOW !!!!  It took me less than 3 minutes to do this.

Take action now as it may impact you for the rest of your life.

Help yourself, and thousands of other CA educators, receive the social
security benefits we are entitled just as educators in others states
are. Currently you are denied of this benefit because of federal law
that negatively impact California's educators:

Help pass The Social Security Fairness Act H.R.235 which was
reintroduced in the House two weeks ago. (We have less than a 10-day
window) This new bill will repeal the two unjust federal bills:  WEP and
GPO

-The Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP): Reduces or eliminates your
EARNED Social Security from other employments (summer work, concurrent
employment, etc)

-The Government Pension Offset (GPO): Basically eliminates an
educator's Social Security benefits from a deceased spouse. If you
outlive your spouse who paid into social security all his/her working
life you will not receive his/her benefits as do others in any other
profession.

Two ways you can be heard: by phone or online:

1) Online:  http://capwiz.com/nea/issues/alert/?alertid=12398176 
Then go to letter "e"
If the link above does not work:
a. Go to  www.nea.org/lac 
b. Click on "Legislative Action Center"
c. Scroll down and click on "social security offsets"
d. Click on "electronic petition" (under the "NEA Supports This
Proposal" paragraph)
e. Enter your zip code, near the bottom of the rectangle, where it
says, "Take action now"
f. Sign your name to the letter and then add sender information
requested underneath.

If you wish to write even more, continue and click on "Social Security
Fairness Act". You will have the opportunity to cut and paste and/or
write more, and send it off to more representatives.

2. By phone:  Make a phone call to one of the local congressional
offices listed below and ask them to forward your message to repeal the
SS Offset Bill by cosponsoring the new bill, HR 235.

YOU can get our elected representatives working for us. There are only
14 states in the U.S. that have these unjust laws in action --- laws
that actually cheat California educators out of what they are entitled
to.

tables and shortened it to make it easier for you.
