The Tech Savvy Booktalker
Online: March 1 - 31, 2009
$250 (Simmons GSLIS Alumni $200)
PDPs: 15

Get children excited about books by using booktalks. Booktalks are not
book reviews but short promos that tease the child into wanting to know
more. Why not jazz up the booktalks by adding a technology component?
During this course, learn how to make use of available technology to
enhance integration for student success. The resources are mostly free,
Web 2.0 resources. Additionally, participants will need access to a
computer and microphone for recording presentations. Access to a digital
camera and/or digital camcorder is needed to add a video component. From
podcasts to Powerpoint, from MovieMaker to Animoto, Nancy Keane, author
of fourteen books, will share ideas that will help you and your students
become Tech-Savvy Booktalkers.

Faculty: Nancy J. Keane currently serves as a library media specialist
in New Hampshire. She also teaches computer courses at a community
college as well as graduate library courses. A noted expert in
booktalking, she has presented workshops around the country promoting
the use of booktalking with and by students. She has written 14
professional books on topics related to children's literature. Her
webpage, "Booktalks Quick and Simple," begun in 1995, has been
recognized as an essential resource in booktalking. Keane has earned an
M.L.S. from University of Rhode Island, an M.A. in Educational
Technology from George Washington University and is currently working on
her Ed.D. at Rivier College; http://nancykeane.com/booktalks/;
