One of my friends is asking me about teaching English in Vietnam, China, Thailand, etc. Anyone has any info on how to get a summer teaching job in a foreign country. Please advise. Thank you.

Deb,

This could be a great program for CSLA -- and a great way to get your
principal to attend and let all of us applaud him. Ask him to co-present
with you! He asked all the right questions, you gave all the right
answers. Then maybe he would want you to co-present at the next conference
of school administators?

In addition to the CDE online school library survey, it's time for the national survey. The national one gives us something to compare ourselves to. The CDE survey is at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/lb/schlsurvwelcompage.asp until the end of April. The national is open only until March 12. Barbara

School Libraries Count!
AASL's longitudinal survey

AASL has just launched our third year of the longitudinal study "School Libraries Count!" All K-12 schools, public and private, are invited to participate on a voluntary basis. Past participant's continued involvement is crucial when examining trends over time, as well as new participants so that an accurate reflection of the US educational demographics are represented.

Additional questions were added to last year's study that focused on the use of social networking in the classroom. Findings showed that the majority of public and private schools were incorporating social networking tools into the classroom to aid in collaborative learning. This year's study will include additional questions regarding English Language Learners (ELLs) and resources made available to them through school library media programs.

The number of participants between years one and two of the survey almost doubled, in large part due to the collective efforts of AASL volunteers getting the word out. We hope to double again in 2009.

Please spread the word now! Post to your Web site, listservs and blogs! The survey may be accessed directly at http://www.aaslsurvey.org <http://www.aaslsurvey.org/> <http://aasl.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9011bdd5ff860316c0afae3f0&id=ca5e431cd4&e=d955b9a42f>. The last day to complete the survey is March 12.
Thank you for your support.

Hello Deb,

It is required to be taught as part of your district's technology use
plan. Your CTAP folks at the Stanislaus COE can give you lots more
details about those requirements. Cyber safety and copyright law are now
required to be in the plans and to be taught as well.

In addition, some districts were selected in California to be part of
additional required training for e-Rate funds. The U.S. Department of Justice
selected 10 districts in the state to offer instruction to students regarding
online behavior, including social networking, chat rooms, cyber bullying, and
for students 10-17, sexual solicitation. Eventually, I believe that will be
required throughout the state (and elsewhere).

In my district, six teacher librarians were selected to be trainer of trainers
for the program.

Hello Calib folks,

This message came from AASL to me as an Affiliate Assembly

Hi everyone,
I hope you have all been following District Dispatch as the stimulus
package moved through Congress. The ALA Washington Office has created
a new Web page www.ala.org/knowyourstimulus as a one-stop source with
resources on how to make sure libraries benefit from the package and
the most up-to-date information on the stimulus. Please distribute
this information widely.
Thank you!
