The two remaining Library Teachers on the Central Coast, working for
Lompoc Unified School District, will probably lose their jobs; this goes
before the Board this evening.

I think it is too much like the story of the young mother feeding her
new infant Kool-Aid to save money. It seemed like such a good idea
until the kid needed teeth and bones.

Discouraged in Lompoc,

Mary P. Burch

LHS Librarian

Next to be cut...the sixth largest school district in Northern
California--Elk Grove Unified School District announced in meetings last
week with teacher librarians and library techs that their mid-year
budget cut proposal includes "eliminating" our K-12 libraries and
staffing. Thankfully our superintendent has asked our district's budget
committee to consider "cutting things, not people", "safety a top
priority", "maintaining investments for our community and children" and
"academic achievement continuing to be a priority". Funny how cutting
library "people" who manage the "safety" of libraries and "maintain the
investments" hundreds of thousands of dollars of print and digital
collections which supports "academic achievement" are being indeed being
considered for "elimination"!!! SOS SAVE OUR LIBRARIES!

Thank you,

Who will be back Next Year?
It is quickly becoming quite apparent that throughout the state many
Teacher Librarians might not be returning to the School Library. Is it
possible to take a roll count from across the state of which districts
will be eliminating or are in danger of cutting their teacher
librarians?
Thank You,

At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that
threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives
forever, for the better. It's an enormous force for good.
