[CALIBK12] Madera Librarians SAVED!

In my former position in a county office, one of the districts did not
have a librarian. The COE Credential person wrote them up and they
received a stinging letter...don't remember the gist of what was said,
but the district was quite upset, then hired a public librarian to serve
them. The public library was not thrilled. This was the result of an
earlier problem before I was hired, so I don't really know what caused
the situation.

Thank you Susan for responding on Calibk12.
So, then I wonder this......
Is there a section in Ed Code that states what may happen if ANY of the
Ed. code sections are violated. You know, a general all-purpose
penalty/consequence that may be considered or applied when an ed. code
directive is blatantly disregarded and a particular code doesn't carry
with it a specific penalty?
On the other hand, it certainly would lend itself as a basis for a
lawsuit ala Williams. My thinking is that is what gives the ed.code,
specifically 18100, its teeth-lawsuits and the courts. Not necessarily
being "punished" by the CDE.
I'm intrigued.
Directed to anyone:
Has 18100 ever been put to the test?
Also, has "school library" ever been defined in Ed. code?

What is the penalty or consequence?

As Barbara Jeffus noted in an earlier email, Education Code Section
18100 requires districts to provide "school library services by
establishing and maintaining school libraries or by contractual
arrangements with another public agency." If the school board closes
their school libraries and does not contract for these services, then
they are violating the Education Code's requirements.
