Oh Tanya! I am so sorry to hear what is happening in your district. I
attended the session at CSLA on submitting grants under the program you
refer to an was so inspired by what you shared. It actually gave me hope
that library teacher positions could be funded through a grant (since our
district eliminated TLs over 10 years ago and funding has not been restored.
Quite the contrary -- our puny little $22 million district serving 3,200
students has survived despite cutting $1.8M
over the last 7 years, and now we're supposed to cut another $1M over the
two years 2008-10. But that's another story...)

Here's an out of the box thought...since your received federal dollars,
perhaps your state representatives and our senators in Washington would be
interested to hear what is going on. I can't imagine that your district can
possibly deliver whatever services they signed off that they would deliver
when they received that money if they are planning to lay off that many
folks. Just a thought...

And yes, by all means, figure out what is going on with your union. Contact
CSEA directly if you can't get anywhere within district. If they don't
represent your classified staff I'm sure they can help figure out who does
and get you in touch with them right quick.

Don't give up. And keep us posted.
