Dear CMGPN Coordinator,

Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing you soon at our next California Middle Grades Partnership Network (CMGPN) coordinators' meeting.

Our agenda has been finalized for our first meeting of 2009. The meeting will be held in beautiful San Diego on February 5-6. The focus is on "academic excellence" and the morning of the first day will feature noted author and presenter Dr. Doug Fisher. Dr. Fisher will share "Checking for Understanding: Practices that Promote Student Achievement". The afternoon session will include a facilitated group discussion on Dr. Fisher's workshop as well as an informative education technology-focused presentation provided by members from the Region 9 California Technology Assistance Project (CTAP).

Day Two of our meeting will be a hands-on multimedia workshop. Bring your laptop, photos in electronic format and/or short movie clips to leave with a finished video!


*         CMGPN Coordinators Lori Villanueva and Linda Solis will show how to quickly create a video using Windows MovieMaker (free software program)

*         Students from Olive Peirce Middle School will share award-winning videos they have created and also serve as MovieMaker tutors


Whether you're looking for new ways to engage student learners, searching for technology funding opportunities, or thinking about creating a school video you can share with students and staff - you won't want to miss this meeting!

As always, there is no registration fee to attend this meeting. Our group usually gets together on the evening of the first day's meeting to continue the outstanding conversations over dinner.
