My personal philosophy is that I belong to groups because I support the goals and objectives of that group. Should I disagree with actions that some members or the leaders of the group have done I feel it is my responsibility to become more involved, whether it is my union, my local school board, a community organization, or my professional association. Involvement can include communication with the leaders, learning more about how the organization works and how decisions are reached, and looking for opportunities to become a part of the process.
That was my motivation for stepping forward to run for CSLA President some years back (many years, actually). I know that CSLA regularly looks for people to run for office at the state and section level, and to serve on a wide variety of committees. Step up and become a part of the process.
