FYI: Here's an opportunity to tell your school library story. Read below about Dave Eggers' TED Prize wish to have 1000 TED members participate in a project for local kids.
Specific school library or literacy programs you could include should be ones you already are doing, but could use money or energy from those outside your immediate school community. For example, are you already doing an annual "Battle of the Books" or "Read-a-thon"? See www.onceuponaschool.org
Best wishes.

Dave Eggers' TED Prize wish: We need your story
We’re thrilled to announce the exciting new version of www.onceuponaschool.org, designed to help you get involved with your local public school. The site was created in response to the wish of Dave Eggers for 1000 members of the TED community to participate in a project for local kids.
Since Dave delivered his wish, TEDsters have stepped up and formed inspiring and creative partnerships and posted their stories on the site. We have nearly 200 stories so far, but to reach our goal of 1000 stories, we’re going to need your help. And the good news is that it’s now much simpler to get involved.
You no longer have to dream up a program from scratch. Thanks to a partnership with VolunteerMatch, you can browse existing needs out there being requested by schools in your area. Pick an opportunity, step in and then share your story to inspire others.
Seriously, please take a few minutes right now to look into the schools near you. It could transform some kids lives… and yours.
Here are some examples of what other TEDsters have already done.
Katy Klassman from Vosges came up with a “Travel the World Through Chocolate” workshop series that teaches kids about the world through making truffles. Here’s a fun video about their project – http://storage.ted.com/prize/OnceUponASchool.mp4
Longtime TEDster and National Geographic contract photographer Mike Hettwer recruited some well-known friends and worked with the 826CHI to run a photography workshop in inner-city Chicago.

Mark Dwight, Rickshaw Bag founder (and supplier of TED gift bags) took inspiration from both Dave Eggers and TED Prize Winner Karen Armstrong and has been working with 826 in San Francisco to develop a book with students around the Golden Rule. http://www.onceuponaschool.org/stories/87
Various TEDsters are working with Holly Jones to help with the launch of Capitol Letters, an 826 inspired center in Washington DC. There are many ways you can get involved in helping with the launch. Everything form design support for the upcoming store and physical center to consulting on curriculum
development. A full list of needs for this project is at http://www.capitolletters.org/thingsweneed
We need your help in making Dave's wish a reality. See what’s happened, get inspired, and share YOUR story at:
