Subject: [CALIBK12] Free Resource Kit

Here's a bonus for those of you on calibk12 during the summer! From the State Library...

The California State Library is offering free of charge copies of a curriculum kit that was developed under a grant from the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program. The kit, Farewell to Manzanar, was developed in conjunction with the California Teachers Association, Universal Studios, and members of California's Japanese American community for use by K-12 teachers as well as by the general public.

The kit was released in August 2002 and is aligned to California's History-Social Science Standards as well as English-Language Arts Standards for grades 4, 8, 11 and 12. Some have chosen to use the kit in relation to the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.

The kit contains:

*	A copy of the book, Farewell to Manzanar
*	A teaching guide
*	A video (VHS) of the made-for-television movie Farewell to Manzanar
*	A study guide to accompany video clips included on the video.

For those unfamiliar with Farewell to Manzanar, you may want to take a look at the Wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farewell_to_Manzanar.

The kits will be mailed on a first-come, first-served basis. Please feel free to forward this message to other teachers or librarians who may be interested.

How to request kits:

*	Send an email request to CivilLiberties at library.ca.gov with "Farewell to Manzanar Kit" in the subject line
*	Include your:

	*	Name
	*	School's name
	*	Mailing address or delivery address
	*	Phone number
