Hello, Calibbers,

You may not be like me, but I hate to "sell" myself and my library program--
it goes against how I was brought up, to not brag about myself, and let my
actions and results speak for themselves. Well, anymore, actions and deeds
aren't enough-- we need to be our own advocates, and yet this is not easy
for many of us.

I just finished reading Brag, by Peggy Klaus, and it really resonated with
me. The author describes how to promote yourself and your
program/product/company in a positive and effective way, through numerous
channels, and with people who may seem unsupportive.

So many times I've heard library personnel say, "they don't know what we do
here in the library." Well, if they don't know, we aren't telling them, or
we aren't telling them effectively, and this book provides excellent
strategies for doing just that-- without being preachy.

Some people are very good at promoting causes they believe in, but for
anyone who needs some quick strategies to help along the way, this book may
be the perfect solution. I really recommend that you get a copy to read
over the summer, and go back in the fall better prepared to promote your
value to the school community and the importance of your program for
students.
