HB Reads Author George Guthridge visits Huntington Beach

seaplane and airplane — traveling over 3,500 miles to Huntington
Beach — "The Kids from Nowhere" author George Guthridge and one of his
former students, Merle, will talk about their life in a
Yu'pik village at this free, public event in the Huntington Beach High
School gymnasium on Thursday, March 5, at 7:00 p.m.


     Merle is traveling
to Huntington Beach from the tiny village of Gambell on St. Lawrence
Island in the Bering Sea, where he continues to live with his wife and
family.  Merle works as a grant writer and basketball coach, while
maintaining the traditions of his Yu'pik culture.


     Huntington  Beach High School is located at 1905 Main Street (corner of Yorktown  Avenue and Main Street).  You can find a location and campus map at www.HBOilers.com   (under "school information"). Please arrive early for convenient  parking.
