[CALIBK12] CSLA and its conference

Linda is also on target with her words of wisdom. Aren't we lucky to have
her still lurking on our list (and probably attending CSLA next year?)

The American Library Association coined a phrase in the last depression
that went something like "When Times Are Bad, Libraries Are More Needed
than Ever".

Times for school librarians and library technicians are really bad. CSLA
needs members now more than ever, even if joining means one less pizza
party at home.

CSLA needs to have as many attending the conference as possible so that,
whether the program is totally on saving school libraries and school
librarians and techs, the networking that can go on, the face-to-face
planning that can be done in the exhibit halls, at the different meals,
and during the conference receptions will be "priceless."

It's time to think about how to find the dues so CSLA can remain strong,
how to travel together, share rooms, whatever it takes to get to Ontario
in November so you can share and plan for the future, even if your
position has changed. How very telling it will be to a principal to say
you need that Thursday and Friday off because, even though you are back in
the classroom, you need to keep up with school libraries so you are ready
when the doors open again.

If you have been replaced by a volunteer, why not make it an offer the
volunteer can't refuse, to attend CSLA. How better to let them understand
what they are trying to replace?

And, if you haven't met Stephen Krashen, it might be a good idea to figure
out how to get him to tell us how to duplicate what he does as far as
getting the word into the state newspapers (assuming some are still around
in November.)
