[CALIBK12] VDM Publishing

Hi Colleagues,
A teacher colleague of mine has been contacted by VDM Publishing requesting permission to publish her thesis (on Dance and the Special Ed. Student).  She is hesitant to publish with them because, well, who are they? And why would they come to her?

I suspect the VDM is a like the company who publishes Who'sWho (they make their money on the assumption that each person who get's there name published in Who's Who will order at few copies).

This teacher would very much like to be published someday and doesn't want to later be denied by a journal or association because her work was "published previously".  Any thoughts?

I know almost nothing about publishing, so any insight that you have that I can pass on to my teacher friend would be helpful.
