[CALIBK12] Looking for reading research

I seem to recall a survey like that, too, but I don't remember the
number of times. I thought it was fewer. Hmmm, does anybody still have
this study in their teaching credential stuff somewhere? I think that's
where I remember reading about it first.

I believe someone somewhere did a study and the actual amount of times
that you need to use, see, hear the word is 22 times before it is yours.
But at this point, this is just hear-say.

In my experience, lists and quizzes mean nothing to students. You can
quiz them all you want on the words, but unless they see them in context
in an actual work, the word will not be solidified in their vocabulary.

Is free choice reading the best way to acquire Academic Vocabulary?
Or is this a case where lists and quizzes work better?
