[CALIBK12] Picture book idea help

I think The Old Man and the Door (El Viejo y La Puerta) would be a good
one.  The old man mishears his wife.  She tells him to bring the pig
(puerca) to the party, but he hears "door" (puerta).  He has a series of
adventures as he carries his front door on the way to a party.

I am looking for a book on Serendipity: Life's surprises
Something on the lines of a  Family Circus cartoon when they chart out
with a dotted line the path of young Billy who is going to the store for
his mom. On his way he can't resist stopping to climb a tree, then
discovers a praying mantis on a fence post- then runs into friends
playing kick the can and joins in-then is offered a piece of pie by Mrs.
Webster-then stops to watch the firemen flush out the fire hydrant-then
finally makes it to the store and buys a loaf of bread-then has another
wonderful series of serendipitous adventures on his way home. 

 

It seems to me I can almost see a book like this with some wonderful
surprises.  At first I thought of using My Lucky Day but that book is
actually not about luck at all, but a crafty little pig...

 

Ideas will be greatly appreciated.
